As part of the biggest capital investment in St Patrick’s College since its move from Cambridge Terrace to Kilbirnie 33 years ago,  the college has installed the first full-size artificial turf in the eastern suburbs.

St Pat’s old boy, Attorney-General Chris Finlayson, joined Mayor Celia Wade-Brown in opening the new turf on Thursday 6  June, a joint project between the college and Wellington City Council.

The college is delighted to have this facility and acknowledges the efforts of all who have helped in making it a reality, particularly the city council (which provided almost half of the required $1.7m funds), The St Patrick’s College Foundation, the SPC Board of Proprietors, the SPC Old Boys’ Association, the SPC Parents’ Association, Marist St Pats RFC and the turf contractors Groundworks.

The college foundation has taken responsibility for finding the rest of the money, running a range of fundraising events.

The college is also offering turf signage and naming rights opportunities plus sponsorship a square metre at a time.
