Nicole Banks, St Brendan’s Deputy Principal

Seven St Brendan’s School year 5 and 6 students painted a Colin McCahon inspired mural to display our school vision. We painted the lush, green hills of Upper Hutt on several wooden panels, and layered them around the Cross that represents ‘Faith’, the centre of our School and our vision. Our vision is painted along the rolling hills: ‘We will be…an inspirational Catholic School that challenges students to be the best that they can be, whilst walking hand in hand with Christ.’

The students studied Colin McCahon’s style before practising on paper with Resene house paint. Once they had the feel of the paint and had mastered blending and perspective they painted onto the already black-painted boards, to add more depth. The students were chosen for their artistic skills as part of an enrichment opportunity.
