Israel’s High Court rules against illegally detained Gaza student

Israel’s High Court of Justice has accepted the Israeli State’s refusal to allow student Berlanty Azzam to return to Bethlehem University to finish her degree.

This is despite the fact that the State did not produce the documents the Court requested.

The 22-year-old student, who was forcibly removed to the Gaza Strip six weeks ago, needs just two more months to complete her BA in Business Administration.

Israel admits that it has no security concerns about Berlanty and that she was removed only because the address on her identity card is in Gaza.

Since 2000, Israel has enforced a ban preventing Palestinian students from Gaza from studying at Palestinian universities in the West Bank.

Some 25,000 people in the West Bank are at risk of being removed from their homes and separated from their families, jobs and studies.
