WelCom July 2017: Doug Tennent was working in Papua New Guinea with the Caritas Catholic Volunteers Overseas programme when he was deported by the PNG Government on 12 June 2017. He was working on legal issues about traditional land ownership in the East New Britain Province.

Doug worked as an administrator in the Archdiocese of Rabaul, advocating for people from the remote Pomio district to retain their land. This included taking legal action against a large multinational company from Malaysia.

‘We are supporting Doug to ensure he is able to return to Papua New Guinea and continue this important work,’ says Caritas Director Julianne Hickey.
