Maori in O’Shea

School delegates at the O’Shea Shield last month voted for a new category, Prepared Scripture Reading in Te Reo Māori, to be included in the contest.

In presenting the proposal, Bishop Charles Drennana said the new category would be open to students of any ethnic group.

He said following the introduction of the bilingual missal, scripture reading in Māori was also becoming more common during Mass. He believes this O’Shea shield initiative is a natural and timely development which will foster Katorikatanga within the life of the Church in New Zealand.
