Jemima Lomax-Sawyers of St Mary’s College has won selection in the New Zealand Schools’ Debating Team.

The Year 13 student competed with the Wellington team in the grand final of NZ Schools Debating championships.

At the end of the grand final, Jemima’s name was among the five announced for the national team.

The annual Russell McVeagh New Zealand Schools’ Debating Championships have been recognised as the country’s most prestigious debating competition since their inception in 1988.

Every secondary school in New Zealand is invited to enter. Regional tournaments are held and the best debaters are selected to represent their region.

Congratulations to Jemima on her selection among the best five student debaters in the country.

The national team will compete in the World Schools’ Debating Championships next February (2013) in Turkey.
