The Compassion Soup Kitchen in Wellington has organised a number of activities in May. On Thursday 11 May the Compassion Soup Kitchen is hosting a Sound Bites fundraising concert at St Joseph’s Church, 154–156 Brougham St, Mt Victoria. Doors open at 6.30pm with refreshments and the concert starts at 7pm. Tickets cost $20 for waged and $5 for unwaged, and is door sales only, with cash and eftpos available. For a list of performers see the Soup Kitchen Wellington Facebook page.

The Soup Kitchen’s Annual Street Appeal is on Friday 26 May. We need over 200 volunteers to collect at around 30 sites across Wellington City, Porirua and the Hutt. This is our biggest fundraiser and we are reliant on the generosity of Wellingtonians to keep our doors open to provide kai and support to our manuhiri (guests) throughout the year. If you are able to collect for an hour or more, please contact Hillary by Friday 19 May on (04) 385-9299 or email hillary.w@compassion.org.nz with your full name, cell phone, email address and the time and location convenient for you. Please look out for the volunteers on the streets with their buckets collecting donations to help us continue our services.

After a successful pilot in 2016, the Compassion Soup Kitchen is again engaging thousands of local students on its mahi throughout the month of May. Through Soup Kitchen for a Day students are provided interactive activities encouraging them to critically discuss challenges that Soup Kitchen manuhiri face, and opportunities to take action to support the Soup Kitchen. Last year activities included food drives, sausage sizzles, bake sales, and ‘pop-up Soup Kitchens’ making and selling soup to fellow students. Please contact sophie.g@compassion.org.nz if your class or school is interested in participating.
