St Catherine’s College student Gabrielle Armstrong-Scott is the latest recipient of a coverted United World Colleges Scholarship. This is the second time in recent years a nominee of the College has won the award.

Gabe Armstrong-Scott is already well-known nationally because she represented New Zealand at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in diving, and was the youngest member of the team.

Since then, Gabe has retired from competitive diving to concentrate on her violin studies and her education. While competing internationally in her sport, she also pursued violin and piano studies and has been a member of the New Zealand National Youth Orchestra for the past two years.

This year she is also the Concertmaster of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to her musical achievements, Gabe passed her NCEA Level One with Excellence last year and is already well on the way to achieving Levels Two and Three, having studied Mathematics and Music at a higher level for the past three years.

Gabe will leave New Zealand during Term Three to study abroad, beginning her new school year in September.

It is expected that she will study at Li Po Chun High School in Hong Kong, the same United World College that former St Catherine’s College student Maddie Dai attended in 2008 to 2010.

The United World Colleges offer students the chance to study alongside high achievers from all over the world, undertaking the International Baccalaureate qualification.

After completing the two-year course, students from UWC typically take up undergraduate studies at top universities in America, Great Britain or Europe.

This scholarship will certainly provide Gabe with an entirely new platform from which to dive into a wonderful educational future.
