World Day of prayer is observed by women worldwide every year on the first Friday of March. This year it is on Friday 1 March, with the theme, ‘Come, everything is ready’ for informed prayer and action.

World Day of Prayer unites women in the world to call out to God for people in need. Using a locally adapted Order of Service from a designated country (this year Slovenia), the prayer takes place during the day. The ecumenical Prayer Service is run by lay leadership and fosters a growing understanding of other cultures and denominations.

In New Zealand, The National Women’s Committee of the National Council of Churches organises the World Day of Prayer. Several women from our parishes are observing this day with other women in their communities.
