WelCom March 2019:

Chris Duthie-Jung and Isabella McCafferty

Young Catholic Leader 2018

The annual Young Catholic Leader programme for 2019 Year 13 students took place in both Palmerston North and Wellington dioceses last December. For the Archdiocese, the 15th successive year of this camp saw a record 81 participants as well as 14 leaders at Forest Lakes in Ōtaki. Any early reluctance soon turned into a growing appreciation that the gift of Jesus-focussed servant leadership is in our Catholic colleges and parishes. A phenomenal level of engagement ensured a week of learning, action and good-natured team competition, which set up 2019 young leaders for their final year of note.

Life Teen Summer Camp Aotearoa 2019

Young people from across the Archdiocese of Wellington and the Diocese of Palmerston North participated in the 2019 Life Teen Summer Camp Aotearoa at Forest Lakes, Ōtaki, in January as part of a group of 200 young people from across the country. From messy games and dance parties to silent Adoration and celebration of the Sacraments, the camp was an invitation to come closer to Christ and live a life of ordinary holiness – to ‘be saints together’.

An Auckland hui on the weekend of April 12–14 is your opportunity to consider whether the proven Life Teen model of local youth ministry is something for your parish. The goal is to equip youth leaders with skills to better serve teens all year round, to grow youth ministry support networks and to provide a taste of what Life Teen International offers parishes to help them lead teens closer to Christ. The training convention is for all involved in parish youth ministry or passionate about ministry with young people from across the country. Randy Raus, CEO, Life Teen International, will return to New Zealand as one of the key speakers with two other Life Teen International staff, Lily Hannan (Curriculum, Life Support) and Doug Tooke (rural and cluster parishes). Contact your diocesan youth office for details.
