The community at Our Lady’s Home of Compassion invite pilgrims to spend a weekend experiencing the depth and beauty of Taize prayer.
The theme for the weekend is Remembering Hospitality (manaakitanga), based on Hebrews 13:2 -“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so, some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”
Br Matthew from the monastic community at Taize will be joining us for an experience of community to celebrate 30 years of Taize prayer at the Home of Compassion.
As well as small and larger group prayer times, there will be workshops exploring how we all belong to God, who is source of all hospitality and friendship.
Silence and singing simple songs based on scripture are features of Taize prayer, aiding meditation and a sense of unity.
The Taize aspects of joy, simplicity and reconciliation reflect the kaupapa of the Home of Compassion and the life of the founder of the Sisters of Compassion, Suzanne Aubert, who opened her heart to “people of all creeds and none.”
It is hoped Taize in Aotearoa will both celebrate 30 years of Taize prayer at Our Lady’s Home of Compassion at Island Bay in Wellington and introduce a new generation to this world wide movement for peace and prayer.
Taize in Aotearoa is open to “people of all creeds and none.”
