September 2013
Parishioners of St Mary’s Carterton with a Youth Team from Challenge 2000 provided an exciting, full time holiday programme for five to 11-year-olds in the July holidays.
Activities included arts and crafts, baking, sports, movies, a pool visit and lots of physical teambuilding, crazy fun games and opportunities for the children to try different experiences.
It was also a chance for some young leaders to try out their youth work and childcare skills, to serve others and to gain confidence.
After all the action everyone was tired but also satisfied at this new community outreach project.
Te Puna Tapu Trust funded the programme.
Next holidays more local college students will join the mix as part of their service and justice commitment. It’s great what can happen with local partnerships.
