The ultimate group leader competition has a winner!
Andrew Moraes of Lower Hutt has been judged ultimate group leader in the latest of a series of national World Youth Day competitions.
The national WYD committee has been running the competitions to give pilgrims a chance to share something of their journey to WYD and to win some great prizes.
Deanne Rutherford of Ss Peter and Paul’s Parish, Lower Hutt, nominated her group leader, Andrew Moraes, as the ultimate group leader. Andrew was chosen from a series of fantastic entries for group leaders around the country.
Ss Peter and Paul’s, Lower Hutt, have a great WYD leadership team of three—Nuala and Andrew Moraes (just married) and Natalie Graham. Together the trio have put in a mammoth effort towards World Youth Day—not only around Lower Hutt (where they’ve been amid the action preparing 30 young people for the pilgrimage), but also on an archdiocesan level.
It’s from this strong foundation and background of teamwork and support that Andrew can be enabled to lead so strongly. He maintains a hectic work schedule as an engineer and serves at the Home of Compassion soup kitchen (plus until recently he’s had a wedding to plan). Most importantly, however, is the example of faith which Andrew’s group members have noticed.
In her submission, Deanne said:
‘To me, he is the walking image of Jesus—strong in his faith, supportive of his parish, friends, family and anyone he comes in contact with. Andrew has not only become a close friend and leader, but a positive example who helps me see what it means to be made in God’s image.’
Congratulations to both Andrew and Deanne!
