Sunday 12 August 2018 marked one year since the official opening of the Marist Challenge Centre in Johnsonville – Challenge 2000’s newest and largest building. Much has happened since Sir Bill English spoke at the opening and Cardinal John Dew and Fr David Kennerly sm blessed the building and all who would enter it.

The centre houses our administration, social work and youth work offices, a chapel for liturgies and hui, two garages for all our gear as well as freezers and cupboards for our food parcels. The heart is our large kitchen and dining area where people from all walks of life gather.

Here is a place where all are welcomed and can feel at home. Young people and families from disadvantaged backgrounds, politicians, former prisoners, business people, victims of crime, leaders, learners, saints and sinners, volunteers and those in need all belong.

To honour the anniversary, a small gathering of members of the Society of Mary and Challenge 2000 whānau met for kai to celebrate our partnership.

Challenge thanked the Society of Mary for their enormous contribution to the work of the gospel.
