On ANZAC Day Challenge 2000 inspired young people to pay tribute to ‘the huge sacrifice that the generations before us made’, during a liturgy at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Havelock North.
Twelve young locals presented a drama with the theme of ‘remembering our ancestors who served our country by doing the same in this millennium’.
Challenge 2000 leader Manisha Jobard said young people were finding inspiration in the stories of the country’s war heroes.
‘Young people today are discovering powerful models of service in the stories of men and women who went to war.’
This is the second time that the Challenge 2000 team has involved college students in paying tribute to the ANZACs.
Manisha Jobard and Luke Collins, both from Wellington, were commissioned as youth ministers by Bishop Charles Drennen to work with Hawke’s Bay youth for a year.
The play was also performed in Napier, and a different team acted a similar drama at Eastbourne and Johnsonville on 27 and 28 April.
