The archdiocese has a new Turanga Maori

Nikki Phillips who replaces Morna Taute as the Turanga Māori for the Wellington Archdiocese has been installed.

Aug10Nikkipowhiri6851.jpg In a powhiri in July 2010 at the Catholic Centre, Nikki’s support team, including Henare Walmsley of Te Kahu o te Rangi and Sr Tui Cadogan, brought her to be welcomed by Archbishop John Dew and the staff of the Catholic Centre including Maori chaplain, Gerard Burns.

Pa Gerry and Archbishop John officially welcomed her. Members of other agencies within the centre added their welcome.

Nikki has been involved with the Catholic community at Te Kainga in Kilbirnie.

Morna, who retired some 18 months ago, followed the first Turanga Maori, Ross Wilson, who died in August 2005.
