Aotearoa New Zealand’s bishops will gather at St Mary of the Angels in central Wellington on Friday, August 15 for the Assumption – and everyone is invited to a Mass.
The Mass will be celebrated at 6pm at St Mary of the Angels (17 Boulcott Street, Wellington Central, Wellington 6011).
The bishops – including Archbishop Paul Martin – will gather at St Mary of the Angels because it’s the National Shrine, dedicated to Mary. The Assumption is the day in which Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up body and soul into Heaven.
The Assumption Mass is the second pilgrimage the six active New Zealand bishops are making his year. They gathered in January in Northland to celebrate the anniversary of the first Mass on New Zealand soil at Totara Point.
We hope you can join Archbishop Paul and the other bishops at this important and special Mass!
