Rest in Peace Cardinal Thomas Williams

Early this morning, 22 December, Cardinal Thomas Stafford Williams died at his rest home in Waikanae.  He had become ill in the last couple of days and died peacefully. He was 93 years old.

Cardinal Tom was Archbishop of Wellington from 1979 until his retirement in 2005.  He was appointed a Cardinal by Pope St John Paul II in 1983. We give thanks for his ministry and witness to the Archdiocese of Wellington and the Church of New Zealand and we pray eternal rest for his soul and consolation for those who mourn him.

A Mass will be held at Our Lady Of Kapiti, 1 Presentation Way, Paraparaumu on Wednesday 27th December 2023 at 10.30am

A Vigil service will be held at St Teresa’s Church 301 Karori Road, Karori, Wellington on Wednesday 27th December evening at 7:00pm.

Cardinal Tom’s Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Teresa’s Church, on Thursday December 28th 2023 at 11:00am followed by an interment at the Karori Cemetery.
