A Rite of Election was held on Sunday 31 March, the fourth Sunday of Lent, at St Mary’s Church, Foxton. Presiding were Fr Joe Grayland along with Bishop Charles Drennan. The recipients were Dalson Meroiti and Alexa Parlato, students from St Mary’s School, Foxton, who have been doing the Sacrament Programme.

The Rite of Election is for those being received into the Catholic Church through preparing to receive the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist at Easter, as well as Confirmation (but the children are too young for this Sacrament). After the formation of the Catholic Faith, this is celebrated by the Bishop who chooses them and elects them in the name of the Lord and from the local Church to which they belong.

Dalson is preparing for Baptism, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Alexa is preparing for Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.
