Southern band raises the roof and some funds for youth

Island Bay rocked on Mothers’ Day last month when the St Francis de Sales parish youth group hosted a concert to hear the resident band currently known as The Flock.

The band performed hit songs from the pop/rock of Oasis to John Mayer and Jack Johnson favourites, to the evergreen Cat Stevens standard ‘Father and Son’ renamed ‘Mother and Son’ for the occasion.

This 1970s classic proved a popular choice with the audience of around 70 parishioners, young and old, who filled the parish hall.

During the intermission some of the younger members of the parish youth group presented a humorous skit which also delighted the audience.

Thanks to the enterprise of the youth group’s leaders, Hannah O’Malley and Christina Keogh, helped by fellow group members Rosemary Gibson and Sean Conway, who jointly compered the show, the group raised around $340.

This will fund a range of activities and games equipment for the parish youth.
