St Michael’s Parish Youth Group in Taita performed an encouraging dance to Kirk Franklin’s ‘Today’ song on Sunday 8 December when MaryAnne Pereira-Misa and Iosia Misa were presented with the Tu Kahikatea Award by Diocesan Youth & Young Adult Ministry Team.

The team which includes Br Timothy Leen, Scott Tau, Bernie and Siosifa Tavite, are all extremely proud of MaryAnne and Iosia’s achievements as they have been so dedicated to the parish youth group for many years.

Parish priest Fr Pat McCullough has also been a great support for MaryAnne and Iosia as well as the Leadership Team. Fr Pat surprised MaryAnne and Iosia with the award during 10am Mass – they had no idea they had even been nominated.

‘I can only say that the Holy Trinity is at the centre of our calling with the youth and Mary our Mother is by our side, but we are speechless,’ MaryAnne said.

The St Michael’s Parish Youth and the Youth Leadership/Support Team will grow in strength as their calendar for 2014 is already being filled.

Retreats, a new youth band, sports activities and a great deal of networking with other parish youth groups are already set to happen in 2014.

‘We would like to thank all our committed youth members and their parents because, without their support, we would not be able to do what we do. Our Leadership/Support Team, my wife and I are just feeling otally blessed,’ says Iosia Misa.
