Charitable giving is an important means of stewardship and as an expression of faith, gratitude, and love, it is deeply personal. Thank you for choosing to express your values by offering your support for the pastoral and social work of the Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington.

Archbishop’s Appeal

Throughout December, Archbishop Paul invites you to contribute to the Archbishop’s Appeal, which supports the formation of our Archdiocesan seminarians. Your generous donations will help cover the costs of their education at Holy Cross Seminary in Auckland, as well as their travel to and from the Archdiocese and ongoing pastoral care. Please consider making a gift to help nurture and support those preparing for a life of service to the Church.

Catholic Social Services – Hope Appeal

Unity/togetherness/collective action.

As the social outreach agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington, Catholic Social Services works on behalf of all in response to Christ’s call to serve the poor and marginalised in our society. Together, with your support, we can make a difference in the lives of children and families struggling to survive, endeavouring to thrive on the peripheries of our society.

Cathedral Reopening Campaign

On 13 July 2018, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Sacred Heart building was deemed an earthquake risk and closed for seismic strengthening. Temporary bracing was put in place, with blue strops installed down the side of the building so that the foyer and chapel could be used while the long- term work on the Cathedral building was carried out.  In August 2020, work to strengthen and restore the Cathedral began. Further assessments of the building during this earthquake- strengthening work revealed other maintenance needs on the exterior brick and stonework as well as refurbishment required to the interior of the Cathedral.

The Cathedral is much more than a parish church. It is the ‘seat’ (cathedra) of the Archbishop and, as such, belongs to all of us. The success of this campaign relies on us all too.

There is $ left to raise towards a total cost of $14 million. We are so close to the finish line now and are now seeking support to make this final part happen.

Your contribution to this campaign will help us to complete the final stage of restoration and refurbishment and realise our vision for a safe, connected, and historically significant sacred space.

It will ensure we can be ‘home again’.

Leaving a Legacy

Leaving a gift to the Archdiocese of Wellington in your will is a prayerful act which is generous and simple to do. As a final gift, it is a reflection and expression on your personal values and a reflection on what you have held dear. A Gift in Will is your legacy to the world. Talk it over with your family and if you would like to add a bequest to the Archdiocese of Wellington it to your will, the Archdiocese can arrange a complimentary solicitor’s appointment if you wish. Call 04 496 5187.
