On this day (May 1) in 1850, Philippe Viard arrived in Wellington.

On this day (May 1) in 1850, Philippe Viard arrived in Wellington. Viard was the first bishop of our diocese. A lot’s certainly happened in 175 years – but his name continues today with the house where our Archbishop lives, which is called Viard House.
