This month, we delve into some of the most pressing and challenging pastoral issues facing our communities today. We’re honoured to feature:
– Bernadette Patelesio, Candidate from Te Wairua Tapu Parish, who offers a powerful reflection on the Gospel for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (12 October). She explores the gospel of the ten lepers healed by Jesus with only one of whom returned to give thanks. She invites us to consider the role of gratitude in our own lives. (See The one who returned, page 2)
– Bridget Taumoepeau, shares her recent experience in Rome with the Catholic LGBTQ+ community, led by Fr James Martin, SJ. Her insights offer a rich perspective on synodality, especially in relation to the ongoing challenge of inclusion for LGBTQ+ individuals within the Church. (See The Little Pilgrim of Hope, page 5)
– Dr John Kleinsman, Director of the Nathaniel Centre, presents a compelling article on the pastoral accompaniment of individuals who have chosen assisted dying. His piece encourages us to reflect deeply on compassion, presence, and ethical care in responding to complex pastoral situations. (See Ministering in places that we rather not be, page 7)
