After successful visits last year, the Challenge 2000 Youth team returned to Kaikōura, with the support of the Archdiocese, to provide a programme during the April school holidays to support local children and teenagers.

Three team members had earlier met with Kaikōura locals about how to best work the young people. Four staff members, a Challenge intern and three Marist Challenge gap students facilitated the week-long programme to support the work underway after the November 2016 earthquake.

The holiday programme activities were based at the local high school and included mini-golf, art for expressing feelings and fears, opportunities for young voices, a walk around the peninsula and an ‘amazing race-team challenge day’ in the township. It was great to see many different people getting involved with the programme and giving everything a go.

The Challenge team members felt privileged to be part of this wonderful community in our Archdiocese.
