Catholic Women’s League members from Napier, Inglewood and New Plymouth along with the National President Susan Dickson from Methven gathered in New Plymouth in March for the Palmerston North Diocesan biannual conference. Srs Mary Wyss and Margaret Monaghan prepared the morning Liturgy, followed by a service of remembrance for our deceased members.

Susan presented a life membership of New Plymouth Branch to stalwart Zofia Jansionowicz. Zofia attended the inaugural meeting in June 1963 and has been an active member since, serving on the committee several times and working with the Polish community in Taranaki.

The two keynote speakers were former pupils of Sacred Heart New Plymouth. Michelle Ramage from Roderique Hope Trust spoke about the work and aims of the organisation formed to assist the growing numbers of homeless in Taranaki, especially families with children who did not meet the criteria of other local emergency housing services. Justine Gilliland, CEO of Venture Taranaki, spoke about current and future economic development in Taranaki. She said we are lucky to live in such a beautiful and prosperous province.
