On Sunday 18 March 2020, Bishop Peter Cullinane has been invited to officiate at diocesan celebrations at Hiruhārama-Jerusalem on the Whanganui River.

This date marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Palmerston North. It is also the 25th year of the setting up of the Rosary Way at Jerusalem. The Rosary Way is modelled on the one at the great Carmelite Friary at Aylesford in Kent, England, where the faithful gather to honour Our Lady on her feast days. The Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally said to have appeared to St Simon Stock and given him the Carmelite habit, the Brown Scapular. [Popular devotion to St Simon Stock is usually associated with devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.]

As our diocese is made up of many nationalities, it is hoped many will come with their own prayers and hymns, adding a great flavour and atmosphere to the day.

Jerusalem is a serene place where the Venerable Suzanne Aubert led her great Māori Mission.

A bus will leave Whanganui for Jerusalem at 8.30am returning at 5pm the same day. To book, please phone Maree at (06) 3479-975 or 0274 065-788.
