Donkey ‘doos’ proved a popular feature in a fundraising gala at Whanganui’s St Mary’s parish in February.
Parishioners Barbara and Peter Smith ran a donkey poo lucky square. After an area had been divided into numbered squares and the squares sold, the donkey (name and owner unknown) was let loose to wander around and the owner of the square the donkey’s ‘doos’ landed on was declared the winner. The manure was an optional extra to the prize, being ideal for the garden.
The gala which was to raise money for the parish redevelopment project was highly successful in uniting the parish for this common cause, bringing the novel money-spinners out as well as the usual stalls, spinning jinnee, hangi and dunking machine, and raising $10,000.
