WelCom September 2019:
Tania Savage, Principal
Cardinal McKeefry School, Wilton, commemorated our one-year anniversary of Garden to Table, on 12 June this year. Cardinal John Dew led with a blessing of our garden and kitchen.
Garden to Table is a nationwide, school-based initiative that teaches children the joy and skills of growing vegetables and cooking a meal to share with others (gardentotable.org.nz).
Room 2 takes part in the Wednesday morning programme with support from Estelle, kitchen specialist, John, garden specialist, and Bridget Wylie, the teacher in charge of Garden to Table along with a group of parent volunteers.
We were delighted to have all who supported the creation of our Garden to Table programme there to share in our celebration. Symbols representing the programme were matched with our Marist Charisms and placed on the prayer table. In his homily Cardinal John shared with the children his own family’s love of garden and linked this to our Marist Charisms of Family Spirit and Presence. Cardinal John spoke about the power of generosity from sharing produce and a meal and reminded us that these experiences are truly a gift from God.
