St Joseph’s Catholic School, Hawera, farewelled two long-serving and much respected members of the school and parish community last December, at a special Liturgy at St Joseph’s Church.

Mrs Cath Clough and Mrs Jude Fevre were retiring after each giving 33 years of dedicated service and leading the school in academia and faith formation. Family, friends, parishioners, the Board of Trustees, past and present staff and pupils and representatives from the Palmerston North Diocese attended the Liturgy.

Cath has served as principal for the past 17 years with dedicated professionalism and inspiration to the school and wider community. Jude, who retired as Director of Religious Studies, has also faithfully served the school and parish community. They have welcomed every family into the school, ensuring a sense of pride and belonging. They built deep and lasting relationships with staff, parents and pupils, and have been driven to educate and nurture respect, responsibility and reconciliation.

Cath led a team with children as the focus to learn and experience a Catholic way of life. The children and parents have fond respect for Cath and her many past pupils have excelled at secondary school and beyond.

Jude has shaped children’s faith and has upskilled teachers. She was instrumental in developing, rewriting and trialling the RE curriculum for New Zealand Catholic schools over many years. Early in her career Jude recognised the importance of helping parents in the faith walk of their children, reflected in her involvement with Sacramental programmes.

Cath and Jude have sown the seeds of faith in the next generation and have provided the community with confident, connected, innovative and lifelong learners who have a deep sense of God
and who actively care for others and the environment.

Pauline Annabel is on the parish council, and Susan Bradley the BOT.
