The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has awarded the title Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great to Tony Murphy in recognition of his outstanding service to the Church in the Diocese of Palmerston North. Until last year, Tony had been General Manager for the diocese for 18 years.

Monsignor Brian Walsh, Vicar General, Diocese of Palmerston North, said the papal award will be presented to Tony at a ceremony in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Palmerston North, 2pm, Tuesday 11 May, followed by afternoon tea in the diocesan rooms.

Monsignor Brian said, ‘Our congratulations and blessings go to Tony on receiving this much deserved honour. Well done, and many thanks for your service of 18 years as our diocesan manager!’
