St Mary’s Parish and school in Palmerston North worked together during June to offer a baptism programme to the families of children who were not baptised.
The school’s DRS, Andrea Deakin, and some parent helpers worked with the families, and five children and their families joined the programme.
The parish ran two sessions for the parents and three classes for the children. Murray Adams and Mary Bennett led the parent nights and Mary Bennett and Sister Joan Manson worked with the children during school time. Fr Joel Boco baptised the children in a pool brought into the church for the occasion.
After their baptism the children changed into white clothes and were then anointed with the oil of Chrism and presented with their baptismal candles.
