A stalwart of Hunterville which is part of St Francis Xavier parish Marton has been honoured for her services to the community.

Maureen Fenton was invested with the Queens Service Medal in May. She has lived in Hunterville for 40 years and is widely respected for her knowledge of the community, her enthusiasm and her humanity.

Maureen leads the singing and is a Eucharistic minister at the Hunterville Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

In the wider community, she represented Hunterville as a Rangitikei District Councillor for three terms. She is a life member of Hunterville’s swimming and bowling clubs.

A member of the Hunterville Community Committee for 17 years, she chaired it for six years.  For 10 years she supervised people sentenced to community service on behalf of the Hunterville Police.

She is treasurer of the Hunterville Beautification Committee and Hunterville Bruce Street Promotions.

She has been a member of the Hunterville Bowling Club for more than 30 years and is a past president of the Hunterville Women’s Bowling Club.

The Hunterville RSA has benefited from her leadership as president and welfare officer. The club has a large membership and is in a healthy financial position.

Maureen also received the Rangitikei District Council Civil Volunteer Award in 2007.
