The famous Joy Cowley spoke to the ‘New Beginnings’ group from St Francis of Assisi Ohariu Parish on Sunday 10 June. Challenge 2000 young people and staff and many local parishioners attended the event. Joy discussed a range of issues and changes in today’s society and facing the Church.

Joy shared a plethora of knowledge and experience to engage the audience in some ambiguous issues. She spoke about her spiritual journey and challenges we can all face along the way. Joy especially looked at challenges pastoral ministers face in their everyday lives and the subtle loneliness priests can undergo during their lifetime of ministry. She encouraged us to be active alongside our priests and to invite them to our own homes.

Joy spoke of how change in the Church may just be what it needs to thrive in society, especially for younger parishioners.

We were inspired by her words of wisdom and left feeling more aware of who we are as Catholics.

The discussion was followed by refreshments and the opportunity to reflect together on Joy words and to socialise as parishioners.
