Wellington Pilgrims preparing to travel to World Youth Day in Portugal

15 of our pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Wellington met together for the first time in preparation for their travels to the World Youth Day event in Portugal.

On Saturday 24 June, 15 of our pilgrims preparing to travel to Portugal for the World Youth Day gathering, met together for the first time at Our Lady’s Home of Compassion in Island Bay. This day was an opportunity to get to know one another, and reflective exercises to notice the thread of God in their lives that had led them to this opportunity to go to Portugal.

Joanna Bello shared her experience of attending World Youth Day in the past, and how to make the most of it, not just as a tourism experience but as a pilgrimage.

Miriama from Kaikoura, who will be attending the World Youth Day event and is also an organiser for the Aotearoa New Zealand pilgrimage through her involvement in the New Zealand Bishop’s Conference National Youth Council, taught everyone the haka the pilgrims will be doing, practicing Maori hymns.

In total there will be 23 pilgrims attending from the Archdiocese of Wellington. Please remember our young people who are travelling to the World Youth Day in Portugal and keep them in your prayers.
