On Saturday November 12 friends gathered from near and far at the Cathedral Parish, Palmerston North to celebrate Fr Peter Fahy’s 70th birthday.
The biggest surprise of the afternoon was when his sister Mary, who lives in the UK, walked in. She had not told him she was coming and those in the know were sworn to secrecy.
Parishioners and friends from the parish were joined by people from all the parishes where Fr Peter had served.
The celebrations started with a liturgy of thanksgiving for all the people and groups that have been part of his ministry ending with everyone raising their hands to bless him.
Everyone then adjourned to the parish lounge for a magnificent feast. All had provided salads to go with the barbecue followed by sumptuous deserts. Fr Peter then cut his birthday cake which had been made by Sister Raewyn RNDM.
Fr Peter must enjoy being 70. He said we should do this more often!
