WelCom December 2019
The two Brigidine sister schools in Wellington’s Ohariu Parish – St Benedict’s School, Khandallah, and St Brigid’s School, Johnsonville, played against each other in a chess tournament held October 31 this year. St Benedict’s travelled from Khandallah to Johnsonville, where St Brigid’s played host. The 34 chess-playing students carried out each game with decorum, aplomb and much sportsmanship. But the day included more for the students. Being in their Intermediate years they were able to foster friendships, pray, discuss educational experiences and share lunch together, with many likely to meet up at either St Mary’s or St Patrick’s Colleges in Wellington next year as they continue their Catholic schooling pathways. Many thanks to Deputy Principal Fiona Kearns from St Brigid’s School and St Benedict’s School Principal Michael Hinds for helping host and organise the day, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. St Benedict’s School await with excitement, their turn to host next year!
