Home of Compassion Open Day – stories of plants and gardens, 10am–2pm, Our Lady’s Home of Compassion, 2 Rhine Street, Island Bay, Wellington, featuring talks, activities, tours, and the stories of the plants and gardens of the Sisters of Compassion, heritagecentre@compassion.org.nz or ph (04) 282-1953.

Tuesday 8 November

Refugees and migrants – come and hear a talk by Fr Frank Bird about his work among Burmese Migrants: ‘Refugees on the Thailand Burma Border at the Marist Mission in Ranong’.  Julianne Hickey who has been New Zealand representative on Council of International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) will talk about global context for refugees and migrants, current issues, and what it means for us in New Zealand. Organised by St Mary of the Angels Social Justice Group, presentations at 7pm, St Joseph’s Church, Mt Victoria, Wellington.

Saturday 26–Sunday 27 November

Two-day Advent retreat with Joy Cowley and John O’Connor – explore connection between Advent story and our relationship with God. Reflect on how this iconic story is woven through our lives in a two-day spiritual retreat, 9am–3pm, Our Lady’s Home of Compassion, 2 Rhine St, Island Bay, Wellington. One day $40; two days $60. St Patrick’s School, Kaponga – centennial celebrations with Mass at 10.30am followed by mixing, mingling and meeting past classmates, teachers and friends, photos and memorabila display, and time capsule to be planted.
