St Mary’s Parish in Palmerston North went all out for their World Youth Day pilgrims last month with a big didgeridoo dinner at the Convention Centre.
As well as bringing in some cash to help the travellers to and from Sydney, it proved a great opportunity to bring parishioners from the parishes and schools in the area to party together. Some even came from Whanganui!
The Didgeridoo Dinner would not be at all Australian without Dame Edna who added lots of spice to the night and no dinner is complete without entertainment from the singing priest, Fr Chris Skinner SM! Thank you Dame Edna and Fr Chris for coming along to help make the night an extra memorable one.
The bottle auction was not to be missed. Bids were called for by auctioneer, Peter Forrest, and lucky diners took home mystery bottles!
Diners savoured damper and dunkas, Tasmanian Pig with Sunshine Salsa, roast roo tail, Bondi Beach chook, Waggawagga pearls, Nullabor spud, Dreamworld veg, Wooloomooloo green stew, Cunnamulla rabbit fodder, Kiwi nests, Whitsunday froot, Kalgoorlie chocs, and Coober Pedy puffs. Yummy yum yum!
Even Bishops Peter Cullinane and Owen Dolan were not going to miss out on the dinner of the year!
All the young pilgrims and non-pilgrims worked hard during the day giving the venue an Australian makeover, and at night ensuring that everything went smoothly for diners to enjoy themselves and have a great time. Fr Craig Butler and the fundraising team worked hard for the pilgrims but also to bring parishioners together for the good food, fun, laughter and great entertainment.
Thank you everyone. Let’s do this again!
