On Thursday 13 February, St Benedict’s School held its first Mass of the year at St Benedict’s Church and the following day we went to Eastbourne Beach for our School Picnic.
These two events are important parts of how we begin our school year as they bring our school and community together and provide us with the opportunity to celebrate our faith together as well as build relationships with our new and existing families.
The Mass was the first whole school Mass we have had with our new priest Fr Doug Shepherd who we are delighted to welcome to the parish.
During the Mass Fr Doug offered a blessing to our new students and staff as well as blessing our new Brigidine Cross. A builder friend of the school, Sam Warren, made the cross out of timber from the old St John’s Church in Ngatoto Street. The cross will hang in the school foyer as the first thing people see when they enter the school.
On Friday the whole school went by bus to Eastbourne for our annual sandcastle/sand sculpture competition, games and activities at Bishop Park and a swim at the Eastbourne Pool finishing the day with an ice block. Everyone had a fantastic day.
