People from all walks of life journeyed to Motuti in North Hokianga to pay their respects to Pā Henare Tate who died in Rawene on 1 April 2017. Pā Henare was ordained as Hokianga’s first Māori diocesan priest and was an esteemed leader during his priesthood for over 50 years. He was also a driving force behind the return and reinterment of Bishop Jean Baptiste Francois Pompallier at Motuti. At Pā Tate’s tangi Bishop Pompallier’s hymn Anō te mahara was sung and his prayer for vocations recited. Pā Tate was laid to rest with his parents, Manuka
